Our Montessori school was established on March 2017. The school is located in a fine manor house on a property of over 1.3 hectares. « Les Loupiots » school caters for children aged from 2,5 to 12 years old. The youngest can take full advantage of the 90m2 space (classroom) where they can discover and learn using material following the complete Montessori approach. So can do the 6 to 12 years old children in a brand new 220 square meters room opened in April 2019 (see below).
We are officially certified and approved by the AMI (Association Montessori Internationale). In each "ambiance" (classroom), we have two certified AMI Educators and Assistant (a native English speaker and a French native speaker). Ours Educators (or “guide” in Montessori language) hold the internationally recognised Montessori diploma which is only obtained after completing years of study, months of internships, written and oral examinations and detailed dissertations all using the certified Montessori pedagogical material (brand Nienhuis).
It should be noted that the name Montessori is not protected and therefore it is sometimes used abusively:
In France, many Montessori schools, even if full of good will, are in reality only « Montessori inspired » : sometimes mixing several pedagogies and going against the essential specificities created by Maria Montessori. Unfortunately, these schools may not have the necessary accredited material, nor an AMI certified educator/guide. A fully accredited AMI guide alone attests to a real knowledge of the pedagogy and the benevolent positioning of the adult toward the children. Moreover, the AMI certified educators possess the necessary skills and expertise with regard to the correct use of this material.
A person does not become a Montessori educator/guide any more than one become a doctor in just a few weeks of training or reading!
The 6-12 years old children’s class opened in September 2018 and has been transferred upstairs in the 220 m2 room in April 2019 (see more pictures in the "photos" section).
Our establishment is a Montessori school. Named after Maria Montessori (italian doctor), who put in place an alternative pedagogy more than a century ago. There are more than 8,000 Montessori schools all over the world, spread across more than 50 countries within each inhabited continent. There are several hundred Montessori schools in France, they meet a need by many parents for an « alternative » school approach.
The pedagogy is based on the self-confidence acquired by the autonomy and the respect of the rhythm of each child. We first opened a French-English bilingual kindergarten, also known as a «Maison des enfants (home for children)» and then we opened the Elementary school for the "6 to 12 years old" children.
The manor house is arranged and equipped so that the child gains maximum autonomy. All the learning is done through sensory methods. This is thanks to specific pedagogical material which makes it possible to solicit the different senses of the child in order to allow them integrate the object of their work. This mixture of ages is a great source of wealth in exchanges between children.
In September 2018, the elementary school opened. Lucie, the French guide, and Sally, the Australian assistant are both graduated with A.M.I diplomas. They are delighted to teach, help and show the way to the children for this new life adventure.
Since end of April 2019, the Elementary school children's moved to their new classroom in the manor's attic that we fully renovated. In this huge room (more than 220 square meters) bathed in natural light, with high wooden ceilings, the children can see all the outsides surrounding the school and most of all, admire the 1834 made wooden roof support structure.
Come to see this magnificent room on our next open day : Saturday, June 29th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (check our "agenda" on this website).
We are committed to enabling children to reach their own potential in a place where any obstacles to their personal development will be as rare as possible.
Our respect for the environment has invited us to create a school where the relationship with nature is a priority. Unfortunately, it is common nowadays for most Montessori schools to open their doors located in city centers. We have decided to move away from this so that children can freely access the greenery and nature. On these 1.3 hectares, our property in Lougratte allows us to design a green space for maximum benefit in meeting the needs of the children. Chickens, two miniature goats (Oscar and Olga), Prosper the donkey and Caty our cat are the Loupiot's animals. They share the children's outdoors and the children love to take care of them.
Obviously, we show the children how to take care of mother nature for instance in reducing at maximum our human impact on it : that's the reason why, with the children, we do waste separation, we also have a dry toilet outside and two composter. In the kitchen garden we grow aromatic herbs and vegetables without pesticides neither fertilizers.
Conscious of these needs, Maria Montessori reserved an important place for the sensory discovery of nature.
The building where we host the children, has been built in 1834. It is endowed with magnificent ancient elements which are a way for us to show the children that it is possible to create from the existing, and that what our elders knew how to do formerly remains useful and delights the young eyes of today.
The pedagogy is based on the great values of mutual aid, solidarity and adaptability. It is a priority for us to ensure that every child, whatever their particularity, can find their place in our school and, above all, that they flourish there as they feel supported and understood.
The school runs from 8:30 to 16:30 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Holidays are based on the Bordeaux’s Academy schedule.
A reception is provided in the morning from 8:00 am and in the evening until 6:00 pm.
For lunch, parents don’t have to prepare their children’s meals anymore. We fortunately found a catering solution. A local professional makes 100% bio and vegetarian meals for the children now.
For the children living in Villeneuve-sur-Lot or close, the Loupiot's shuttle can pick them up at 8:00am in the Eysse district and will drop them at the same place around 5:00 pm. The child can only do the morning or the afternoon trip, or both according to the room available in the shuttle (for cost, see the Fee chapter).
It should be noted that school in France, even public, is not free! This is the case for both national education and private schools. The cost is also funded greatly through your taxes, whether you are taxable or not.
Tuition in Montessori also has a cost that can be much lower than the cost of a so-called classical school (national education, for example).
According to the Ministry of Education, in 2016, the cost of a primary school child in a school under contract with the State is estimated at 6500 euros per year (ie 591 euros per month over 11 months).
In our school, the fees for first child of a sibling are 460 euros per month (over 11 months) and if he/she has brothers or sisters who join our school the same year, the price will decrease (see below).
Montessori School « Les Loupiots » is a private school ‘hors-contrat’.
This means that it is independent and does not receive any help or subsidy from the French state. We must therefore cover rent, salaries, heating, materials and other expenses by relying on parents. It is therefore a strong choice and a militant act that you do for your child by choosing another form of education, which has respect for your child and their individual rhythms.
To participate in the running costs of the school, the fees are as follows :
A part-time formula is created for parents who would like it. We will receive the child two whole days in the week instead of 4: these days will be defined together.
